Who am I?
Dear Reader,
Hello there. I’m Kathryn, most often known as Kae.
I’m the child of a fundamentalist Christian mother, an Agnostic father, and a pagan godmother. You can imagine the fun/exciting/embarrassing stories that came out of this.
For lots of reasons, I’m cynical.
I can’t not believe in true love. I am a hopeless romantic to the core.
For the last year and half, I’ve had a chronic, incurable illness. I walk with a cane. Please don’t call me House. If you see me around IU, say hello. I don’t normally bite.
I aspire to be like Audrey Hepburn. I’ve seen Barack Obama speak twice. I’ve spoken on the same stage as Senators. I saw the Dalai Lama and Joshua Bell and was equally moved by both.
I do not have a TV, but do waste a devastating amount of time through my Netflix account. I follow a few shows with distressing regularity (… I might have accidentally called a professor “Giles”. In my defense, he did look and quite a bit like the Buffy the Vampire Slayer character.)
Through a program sponsored by the Honors College at IU and an Indianapolis college mentoring program called DREAM Alive, I’ve become involved mentoring high school students at an inner-urban school. It’s changed a lot about what I think is right and wrong in education, and opened my eyes to what I think of as privilege. Personally, it’s changed who I am tremendously, and I hope I can have a fraction of that same impact on my students’ lives.
When not attempting to build a statue of Lenin out of Rice Krispie treats, I’m a student at Indiana University. I’m majoring in Political Science and English with minors in Medieval Studies, History, and Comparative Literature. I honestly have no clue what I want to do when I grow up, but I would quite like to get my Ph. D. in medieval literature. Also, I really enjoy reminding my parents that I want to get a Ph.D in medieval literature; their faces turn interesting shades of purple.
Feel free to ask me anything. I like to think I give decent advice and I’d love to get to know my followers.
